Stardust

for Jennifer

I can still hear your voice,
Talking to me.
Your eyes blinking of excitement,
Your hand gesturing,

Stretching out in front of mine —
Nearly touching each other...
But not quite.

I feel a force of attraction
Building up in that moment
Like two magnets sliding along.
And the sun, glistening in your hair,
The serene water, bathed in stars of light;

White sprinkled sailboats,
Capture our silence for a moment,
A comfortable one,
Though it does not last long
As we burst out to speak to each other
Share our worlds of thought —
Surprised at a closeness that grew,
Till this moment of proximity,
All in ourselves - and we wonder
At its similarity,

Feel drawn to it,
Like a soft warm breeze,
Over a mountain precipise,
Taking us soaring higher —
Like souls dancing around the flame
Of ever curious knowledge
Interlocked, dancing, in each others realm.

It's hard not to stare and get lost,
In your mesmerizing emerald eyes —
But even harder to resist
Your enchanting voice

Like a bell ringing over far away meadows
And through pristine before untouched forests —
Reverberating with a sweet calm
Spellbinding sound.

I still hear you
So many hours later
A memory replaying itself
Without effort

Like the moment I stopped
And spotted you from afar
Knowing it was you
Before knowing you
The graceful silhouette against the ocean blue —
Those sparkling eyes like darts
Pierced right through my heart

I felt no rush
No worry to lose you or gain your affection
Just peace in your presence
Like a mirror of the better parts of one's self —
Like the beauty of innocent thoughts
Distilled into a heavenly shape
On a lovely Summer day
In the middle of a Winter
